At The Lansing Legacy, we invite you to learn more about the Albany Lansing Brothers: John Lansing Jr., Abraham G. Lansing, Col. Gerrit Lansing, Saunders Lansing, & Jacob Gerritse Lansing & their relatives as well as the Lansing Manor and other related historic sites such as The Gansevoort Mansion where Susan Lansing Gansevoort spent summers with her husband and his brother Herman and Lansingburgh, one of Aunt Susan Lansing Gansevoort's nephews homes, that of Herman Melville and about James F. Cooper who was the best friend of John Lansing Jr.'s son in law, Jacob Sutherland who lived at the Lansing Manor with his wife Frances Lansing where they entertained their friends and relatives. Washington Irving's nephew married into the Lansing/Sutherland family so we explore this relationship also. (photo:The Lansing Manor of N. Blenheim, NY taken by Elizabeth in 2005)
We are planning on making available several volumes over time as part of what has been titled: "The Lansing Legacy" series where we delve into the prolific Lansing family relationships while visiting the historic sites associated with these families through colorful photos taken by author, Elizabeth (Lansing) Montgomery, the niece of John Lansing Jr. and 4th great granddaughter of Abraham G. Lansing, former Treasurer of New York State. Through her many singular narratives we discover interesting facts also which suggest who might have been guilty of the disappearance of John Lansing Jr.. in Vol. I for example and later for the disappearance of her great great grandfather David Lansing (Vols II & III). Also included are corrections found during her lifetime of research which has unveiled genealogical errors regarding the identity of certain family members and their portraits which she has sought to clarify in these volumes. Vol. I for example presents a Pedigree Chart of the Lansing Brothers going back to Wm. The Conqueror who might have only been a step-father to the Lansing ancestor, 'Gundrada" who was raised by William and his wife Queen Matilda of Flanders. Research extends from that point in history to Charlemagne and beyond so if by chance their child Gundrada was biologically Matilda's, the chart is already affixed from that point back to Charlemagne as both the Qyeen as well as the King were descended from Charlegmagne although through different ancestors.
In another volume, we discover that certain "Abraham Lansings" have been confused with others. While two Abraham Yateses have also been confused with one another (both are in Vol. III). Volumes II and III, do now contain and future volumes IV , V and VI (will) contain charts with couples including their children listed below them along with photos of their portraits or tombstones or family crests many supplied by Miles T. Lansing. Many descendants of the famous Lansing brothers up to the early 1900's have been listed in those five volumes also while omitting the names of those still living. Archives have been searched by Elizabeth and Miles and old records have been found and transcribed by them, revealing information about land records, political appointments, court proceedings, letters between family members and also between government officials, etc. which are included in volumes II and III as well. Each volume (II through III currently) is replete with colorful photos of portraits and historic places bringing to life historic persons and their lives (otherwise viewed, if at all, only in black and white in other researchers' books) creating a much more beautiful book by contrast; future volumes of this type and format( IV and V) will also display hundreds of pages in color just as Vol. II and III do, making these volumes a perfect gift item for a family member or for personal use as a beautiful Coffee Table Book to share with family and friends.
